Biography and artist position

I am an artist, graphic designer, and art teacher. I work with painting, graphics, and various mixed techniques, and my work moves between realism, impressionistic use of color, expressive painting, and conceptual approaches. My works intertwine realistic imagery, freely treated surfaces, and ideas that can give the depicted subject a new or slightly shifted meaning.

My work is united by an interest in the relationship between conscious intention and unpredictable outcome. In the depiction of the human figure, this is expressed through psychological state, the body, and the pictorial surface. In nature motifs, natural diversity, impressionistic color perception, and compositional orderliness come together. In graphics and monotype, the same question appears in the material and work process, which I can control only to a certain extent.

I am interested in people, nature, movement, and atmosphere. I am not so much captivated by light itself, but by how an object becomes visible through light – how its shape, color, and surface appear. Sometimes the work begins with an observation or a random detail, other times with an idea whose final outcome I do not yet know at the start.

Some works develop into lyrical and stylized figuration, while in others psychological state, partial abstraction, material, and trace come to the fore. These are not separate styles for me, but different possibilities to explore how image and material, as well as intention and free process, work together in a single artwork.

Igapäevaselt tegelen graafilise disaini ja pakenditega, kus on oluline täpsus, selged piirid ja kontrollitud tulemused. Kunstis meeldib mulle aga jätta ruumi katsetustele, juhusele ja ideedele, nii et mitte kõik ei pea olema täielikult kontrollitud. Kirjeldan seda ise kui “vormi toomist kaosest ja korratusest maalil.”

Olen lõpetanud Eesti Kunstiakadeemia graafilise disaini erialal bakalaureusekraadiga (BA, 2015) ning omandanud magistrikraadi kunstiõpetuses Tallinna Ülikoolis ja Eesti Kunstiakadeemias (MA, 2020). Lisaks olen täiendanud end kunstiterapeudina Tallinna Ülikoolis (2022).

Alongside my creative work, I teach visual communication and graphic design, conduct art workshops, and also use art therapy techniques in my teaching.
