Screen printing

Gelli printingorgel printingis a contemporarymonotypecharacterized by the uniqueness of pigment transferuniqueness, one-time use,non-repeatable printing plateunlike, for example, linocut, silk screen, or relief printing.
Gel printing uses a soft, rubber-like plate (the so-calledgelli plate) to create the image and transfer it onto paper. This technique is very popular due to its simplicity and creative possibilities.

Principle:

  1. Plate preparationgelli plateis an elastic and slightly sticky plate. Paint or pigment is applied to it.
  2. Creating an image– patterns can be made on the color using various tools (e.g., brushes, spatulas, texture paper, stencils).
  3. Transfer of paint– the printable material is pressed onto the plate and lightly pressed so that the pigment transfers over.
  4. The result is a unique work of art– each print is unique and unrepeatable. It is usually impossible to reproduce the same result because the paint is applied to the plate as a random or manually created image. In gel printing, it is sometimes possible to make a light second print typical of monotypelight second print(so-calledghost print), but the second print from the same plate is no longer the same — it is weaker or a completely different image.

Properties:

  • Suitablefor fast and creative workalso for beginners.
  • Different colors can be used: acrylic, gouache, ink.
  • Allowslayered and texture-rich images.

It is also possible to make a gel plate at home using gelatin and glycerin. A homemade gel plate is not as durable (sharp objects are especially dangerous), but it gets the job done. The paintings below were created using a homemade gel plate.
